A Rare Spice Tin

In the days before corner shops and cellophane packets, cooks and housewives from hotels to outback bark homes all used individual spices – e.g. they ground their own nutmeg. The pictured item is a spice holder manufactured in Britain circa 1830-1840. No doubt Emily Mary Barton had one at the cottage “Rockend” at Gladesville and her daughter Rose Paterson would have had one at “Buckinbah Station”.
